Homily for the Golden Jubilee of Our Holy Redeemer, Stornoway

Golden Jubilee of the Parish of Our Holy Redeemer, Stornoway
Homily preached by Cardinal Keith Patrick O'Brien, Feast of St. Columba, Thursday 9 June 2011

INTRODUCTION:

It is indeed a privilege for me being here with you at the invitation of your Bishop, Bishop Joe Toal and your Parish Priest Father Roddy Johnston. It is a joy for me being back here with you again following my apostolate as Apostolic Administrator between the years of 1996 and 1999.

Today we celebrate the golden jubilee of the building of the first permanent church in Stornoway since the Protestant Reformation – but 50 years is but a short time when compared to the approximately 1,500 year history of Christianity here in the Western Isles.
