Youth cross2 11.jpgYoung people from across the diocese were in St. Columba’s Cathedral on 5 June to welcome the arrival of the Scottish Youth Cross on its way to the 2011 World Youth Day in Madrid. The Cross had arrived in St. Columba’s Primary School, Oban on Ascension Thursday when Canon Donald MacKay celebrated Mass for the pupils..

On arrival at the Cathedral the Cross was brought in procession to the sanctuary where young people performed a drama based on a homily of St. Andrew of Crete while the choir of St. Columba’s School sang ‘Be Still and Know that I am God’. Bishop Joseph Toal addressed the young people on the World Youth Day theme: ‘Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the Faith’.

I would like to thank all the young people who came along to the gathering around the Scottish Youth cross. I would like to especially thank St Columba's school choir and Pauline Carson for being there. They were so well behaved.  Dear Lord, Bless and keep all the young people of Argyll and the Isles in your Most Sacred Heart. Amen
